How does it work?

Membership is completely free and the money you put into your account remains just that; your money, so you can withdraw it whenever you want. You can save as little as £5 a month up to a total of £35,000 and we have payroll deduction available in most forces which means your contribution can come straight out of your salary, making it a convenient way to save.

How do I keep up to date with my account?

Aside from all the usual ways such as by phone, email, fax and contacting the office in person, you are also able to keep track of your account online. Once you have joined, all you need to do is register by clicking the yellow 'sign up' button at the top of this page. Of course, we're always happy to hear from you so if you have any queries, please call us for a personal and friendly service. We also send out annual statements and we have a fantastic text service that allows you to text in to receive balance information. For more details on this, click here.

Is the £5 per month a membership fee?

No, membership is completely free. The £5 per month is your money and will remain so, you can withdraw it whenever you like. All we ask is that you keep at least £5 in your account in order to keep it open.

How do I pay in?

You can save directly from your force salary, making it an easy and convenient way to save. To check if we have payroll in your force, click here. If payroll deduction is available in your force, this means you can save directly from your salary making it easier to put money aside each month. We also have a direct debit option available if your force is one of the few not on our payroll deduction list, and you can also make one off payments into your account by debit card or cheque and these can be made as often as you like.

How can I withdraw?

You can withdraw your savings at any time; the easiest way to do so is by requesting a BACS transfer which means your money is transferred electronically between your Credit Union and your bank account. You can do this by phone, email, in writing or even by popping into the office. Alternatively, we can issue cheques on request if you prefer.

What’s the maximum I can save?

There is no maximum monthly amount you can save however the total amount of savings you can hold is £35,000.

When do I receive my dividend?

Unlike the high street banks, all our profits are paid back to our members by way of an annual dividend. The dividend is announced at the Annual General Meeting and paid direct to your account the following working day. It is paid gross of any tax but is not tax free and therefore should be declared on your tax return.

What will happen if I leave my employment?

Once you are a member of No1 CopperPot, you remain a member indefinitely, regardless of your personal circumstances so whether you leave your employment or retire, you can rest assured that you will continue to be considered an important part of the No1 CopperPot community.

How safe is it?

We are regulated by the Financial Services Authority, just like the big high street banks. Your money is also covered 100% by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. In addition to all this, Life Cover up to age 65 also comes at no extra cost to you so that should the worst happen, your savings balance will be doubled and any loan balance will be cleared so as to help your loved ones in their time of need. This service is exclusive to Credit Unions and is a service you will not be offered by any of the major high street banks. To read the terms and conditions, click here.
