About Us

Who are we?

Founded in 1986, a small group of Greater Manchester Police officers came together with one clear purpose: to look after their own. At a time when strict rules around personal debt meant some officers were at risk of losing their homes, and even their jobs, they chose to act. By pooling their savings, they offered personal loans for colleagues to borrow affordably, keeping every penny of profit within the policing community. That idea became GMP Credit Union.

As the years went on, the vision grew. A merger with CopperPot Credit Union in Leicestershire Police brought two like‑minded organisations together, and No1 CopperPot Credit Union was born. We expanded across the country and now support over 50,000 members from all UK Police forces, making us the biggest police credit union in the UK.

What hasn’t changed is the principle we were founded on: people helping people. We have no shareholders, only members who share in our success each year because they’re not our profits, they’re yours. And we remain dedicated to supporting the police family with savings, loans, mortgages direct from payroll and financial education designed to make life a little easier.

I honestly couldn't recommend No1 Copperpot enough! You always get straight through to someone with no long waiting, no hassle. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and it is never anything but a positive experience calling them. I got through to Rachel Fletcher and she was just so lovely, helpful and easy to talk to. Talking to Rachel actually made my day better, how often can you say that about a company these days. Rachel went above and beyond to get everything sorted so quickly, she was so friendly, polite and a true credit to your company. I actually had 2 other loans pre-approved but I chose Copperpot instead due to how easy they are to deal with and because of how nice everyone is.
